The Christmas tree is put up in early December, along with the other decorations that make the house feel festive. We do not have a real Christmas tree, mainly because of the care that they take, but we do have a real looking fake pine tree.
We get up early on Christmas morning and open presents before heading off to my grandparents house (this year, last year Christmas was at home).
Christmas has always been very special to me, with all our family getting together and having a traditional dinner. However what I say as traditional may not be traditional for others.
First of all I will start by saying that it is summer in New Zealand, which most people can't seem to wrap their heads around. So aside from the obvious of the weather being warmer it also means that the seasonal food is different. For on we have fresh berries, new potatoes and baby carrots. However we do still have roast turkey and ham. But this does mean that it is cooked on Christmas morning sometimes on a very very warm day. My family generally end up outside playing B.Y.C. (Otherwise known as backyard cricket).
So that is what Christmas is like in my family. A day of eating and relaxing with family. What are your Christmas traditions?
Merry Christmas!
